The Marathon Relay Races Mania

Never in Brazil there were so many runners taking part in a marathons. Ok, most of then are not running all the marathon alone. The new running fever in Brazil is definitively the Marathon Relay races. The "Maratona BR de Revezamento", in Rio de Janeiro, attracted more than 10 thousands athletes in 8, 4, and 2 runners teams. The winner was the African 8 runners team in 2:03:36. The Africans broke the race record, but didn't get the US$ 50 mil bonus for completing the marathon in less than 2 hours.

To know how the marathon relay races are growing in Brazil, this race had just 4 thousands runners last year. This success are not restricted to Rio de Janeiro, since "Maratona Pão de Açúcar de Revezamento", in São Paulo, had more than 15 thousand runners in its last edition.
